The two days in Rome started at the Hotel Emmaus, a simple, two- or three-star hotel (it is hard to know which!).

Day one was a "walk all around the ancient city day." We saw a bell tower and various such things in route to the Victor Emmanuel Monument, which was started in 1885 and finished in 1911 in honor of the first unified king of Italy. It is huge, with this big horse in the middle great views from the top.

From the top you also see the Coliseum, which Julia liked a lot.

Around the Coliseum there was also this famous arch and the remains of the Forum.

At Fontana de Trevi you are supposed to throw a coin in if you want to return to Rome. Tammy was thinking of re-creating a scene from "Gidget Goes to Rome," but the local law enforcement didn't look to friendly, so she abstained (silly Americans)!

At the Pantheon, where we also noticed the infamous "McDonalds bag" (infamous only to people where Kevin works).

These are the Spanish steps, often seen in various movies.

We spent lots of "looking at the map" and grinning at dad looking at the map.

This is the Castel Sant' Angelo, seen from the ground and a view from the top.

We saw various sights along the way, such as a mime, soccer rowdies celebrating the Roma team's win for the all-Italia championship, an interesting water spout, pretty flowers in windows, crowded streets, and a million monuments.

Day Two brought us to the Vatican and Saint Peters. First, through you had to wait in line. There was, however, "relief" at the end the line - a McDonalds right near the entrance to the Vatican museum (you can barely see it in the picture). In these situations my Dad is found of telling people "there's a McDonalds just around the corner. Looks like he would have been right in this case. What will they think of next!? I know, I know, a Starbucks!

Saint Peters from a distance and close up. No use even trying to take a picture inside. It is just too awesome to capture on film or with pixels.

Finally, this is what a day on the streets of Rome does to a person!
